CRUISES FROM AND TO MIAMI, FLORIDA

Miami cruises: palm trees, warm seas and vibrant culture

Miami is often called The Magic City for this magical feeling you’ll notice when you arrive. As the sunshine wraps you in its warm embrace, Miami invites you to choose your own adventure. Where else but on a Miami cruise can you find the city’s winning combination of tropical beaches, stunning sunsets, historic architecture, great shopping deals, multicultural diversity, rare wildlife and contemporary art?

A Miami cruise places you in the middle of the action. Once in the city, head to Miami Beach, where pastel hues and Art Deco accents line the historic buildings of Ocean Drive.

To the west, the star-lined streets of Calle Ocho (or Southwest Eighth Street) in Little Havana form this hub for authentic Cuban cuisine and live entertainment. The Dolphin Mall offers big name brands with big discounts, and it borders the Everglades, so why not take an airboat ride afterwards? You just might get up-close and personal with a 10-foot alligator.

HOW TO REACH MIAMI CRUISE TERMINAL

MSC Cruises’ ships dock at Port Miami, located between downtown Miami and South Beach. The address is: Port of Miami – Cruise Terminal C, 1537 N, Cruise Blvd, Miami, FL 33132.

There are multiple terminals at Port Miami. Your designated terminal will be listed on your ticket.

By car, Port Miami is 23 miles from Fort Lauderdale, 71 miles from West Palm Beach and 238 miles from Orlando. To reach the port, enter the following address into your GPS: 1015 N. America Way, Miami, Florida 33132.

If travelling from the north on I-95 South, take exit 3B to Bayside. Head south to Northeast Fifth Street and turn left. Fifth Street will lead to the Port Miami Bridge. Continue over the bridge and follow the signs to your designated terminal.

If travelling from the south, take I-95 North and exit at Northwest Second Street. Head straight on to Northwest Fifth Street and turn right. Fifth Street will lead to the Port Miami Bridge. Continue over the bridge and follow signs to your terminal.

The easiest way to get from MiamiCentral rail station to the cruise port is by taxi. The journey takes around 10 minutes.

Miami International Airport (MIA) is approximately nine miles from the cruise port and usually takes between 15-20 minutes in a taxi. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is 26 miles away (approximately a 35-minute car journey).

From Santos Dumont Airport (SDU): although the port is approximately five kilometres from this airport, make sure to leave adequate time for the journey, in case of heavy traffic. The taxi journey takes approximately 15 minutes. If using public transport, the journey takes around 20 minutes on the L1 metro (blue line) to Parada dos Museus, which is almost directly in front of Pier Mauá.

Miami’s warm climate makes it a popular year-round destination. Summers are sunny and hot, with a daily average of 28°C and highs of up to 32°C. Temperatures cool a little during winter, yet rarely drop below 20°C, meaning that beach visits are still possible during cooler months.

Miami’s rainy season usually runs from late spring until the end of June.

Miami and its surrounding areas boast some truly outstanding beaches – some of the best in the United States, in fact. Thanks to the mild climate throughout the year, every day can be a beach day. The most beautiful beaches are found on the barrier island of Miami Beach. World-famous South Beach boasts gorgeous white sands with turquoise waters, iconic Art Deco architecture and upscale hotels.

To the north, Mid Beach and North Beach are more low-key. North Beach Oceanside Park has shaded walking trails to provide a cooling break from the sun. Further north, Surfside Beach has a retro, small-town vibe that appeals to swimmers and sunbathers. To the south, the glitzy barrier island of Key Biscayne is a natural paradise, offering rustic beauty, sheltered beaches and abundant wildlife.

While Miami is famous for luxe hotels and high-end boutiques, the city also has plenty of free things to do and affordable ways to explore. In South Beach, bike or stroll the Miami Beach boardwalk, or take a self-guided Art Deco tour.

North of downtown, a former garment district has been transformed into a vibrant outdoor museum, Wynwood Walls, where colourful murals and street art can be found at every turn. The Miami Design District is full of treasures for design aficionados, including cutting-edge architecture, cool galleries and the (free) Institute of Contemporary Art. East of downtown, Little Havana is a hub of Cuban culture – stroll historic Calle Ocho, grab a takeaway pastelito pastry and cortadito coffee, and watch domino games at Máximo Gómez Park.
