Agadir<\/strong>\u00a0was, by all accounts, a characterful Atlantic port, prior to the terrible earthquake of1960 that completely destroyed it. Just four years into independence, the earthquake was an especially traumatic event, but its reconstruction showed modern\u00a0Morocco<\/strong>\u00a0at its best, and half a century on, the result is quite impressive.<\/span><\/p>\n

On your cruise\u00a0to\u00a0Morocco<\/strong>\u00a0you can admire swathes of park and garden that break up the hotel and residential zones, and the magnificent beach which is untrammelled by Spanish Costa-style high-rise building.\u00a0Downtown Agadir<\/strong>\u00a0is an exotic\u00a0cruise excursion; it\u2019s centred on the junction of Boulevard Hassan II and Avenue Prince Moulay Abdallah with Avenue du Prince Sidi Mohammed.<\/span>
\nRebuilt in 1960s \u201cmodernist<\/strong>\u201dstyle, it has all the trappings of a town centre, with office blocks, a post office, town hall (H\u00f4tel de Ville<\/strong>), municipal market and banks.\u00a0Agadir\u2019s beach<\/strong>\u00a0is as good as they come: a wide expanse of fine sand, which extends an impressive distance to the south of the town, is swept each morning and patrolled by mounted police.<\/span>

which rent out sunbeds and umbrellas. The ocean \u2013 it should be stressed \u2013 has a very strong\u00a0Atlantic<\/strong>\u00a0undertow and is definitely not suitable for children unless closely supervised. Even adults are advised not to go out swimming alone.<\/span>
\nAs a break from the beach, and especially if you have kids to amuse, a cruise excursion can\u2019t be complete without a wander into the\u00a0Valley of the Birds<\/strong>, a narrow strip of parkland, with a little aviary of exotic birds, a small herd of Barbary sheep and some other mammals, a waterfall and a children\u2019s playground. It\u2019s all very pleasant, and the\u00a0lush vegetation<\/strong>\u00a0draws a rich variety of birds throughout the year, but inevitably, some of the animal enclosures are distressingly small.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
